摘要:

Recent studies have shown that exchanges of heat, moisture, and momentum between the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) and land surface are important factors affecting local- and regional-scale weather and climate. The land-atmosphere interactions are processes within a fully-coupled system where the states (temperature/moisture content) of the air and land surface can have strong influences on one another. Since the General Circulation Models or Regional Climate Model using coarse grids and bulk parameterizations cannot accurately capture the diurnal land-ABL interactions, a fully-coupled framework integrating a radiation parameterization, a large-eddy simulation, and a land surface model is developed to utilize remotely sensed observations for studying realistic land-ABL interactions. This presentation includes two studies to investigate: 1) the impact of surface heterogeneity scale on the ABL, and 2) the feedbacks of atmospheric properties on the land surface states and fluxes. This framework provides a useful tool for furthering our understanding about hydrological and energy cycles in the complex land-ABL system, and ultimately for developing better sub-grid scale parameterizations used in large-scale weather/climate models.
